Lincoln Pilgrimage campout
Friday, April 24, 2026 5:00 PM (meetup at Sanders house, 8932 Lincolnwood Drive)
Sunday, April 26, 2026 3:00 PM
Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site, 15588 History Lane, Petersburg, IL, 62675 United States (map)
Join us for an unforgettable weekend celebrating the legacy of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln! Pack your spirit of discovery and join Troop 916 as we honor Honest Abe in style. We will divide into two groups (same campout cost of $75) for the Saturday activities: (1) The “long group” will hike from our campsite onto the Lincoln Trail, which follows the very footsteps of Abraham Lincoln and his regular journey from New Salem to Springfield. It is 19 miles on pavement, takes all day long, and is only recommended for legitimate long-distance hikers, such as those who have previously completed the Evanston Beat-the-Bounds hike. Minimum age is 11 years old. If you are unsure about being in the “long group”, please discuss first with Alan Sanders. (2) The “short group” will have some other activities, including an extended visit at one of our country’s very best Presidential Libraries, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, where you can learn about the changes our society was undergoing that eventually culminated in the Civil War. This group will also visit other sites such as Lincoln’s Home on short hikes within Springfield along the Heritage Trail.
When signing up and paying, choose whether you will be in the “long group” or the “short group” for the Saturday activities. Deadline to sign up and pay is April 21.
